Nelson Pinot Noir 2009
Richmond Plains produced New Zealand’s first Pinot Noir from both certified organic and from biodynamic grapes.
Our Pinot Noir is made in an elegant appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from a little cellaring allowing it to develop more complex characters.
Richmond Plains is certified organic by BioGro New Zealand and biodynamic by Demeter.
Nose: Dark cherry, chocolate, raspberry and herbal aromas with hints of savoury, chary oak.
Palate: Red cherry and dark berry flavours with some earthy forest floor and spicy notes. A well structured, fruity Pinot Noir with a lovely lingering finish. Enjoy with salmon, roast poultry or red meats.
Vintage: Grapes bunches were thinned and hand harvested to maximise flavours and fruit quality.
Winemaking: The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed and transferred to open fermenters. After a period of cold maceration for 4 days the juice was inoculated for fermentation. Regular hand plunging over 10 days was carried out in the winery. The fermenting juice was then transferred into a mixture of oak barriques and tank for maturation and to wait for secondary fermentation in the spring before bottling in the new year.
Sulphur: This wine is made with minimal levels of sulphur/SO2/preservative 220.
Vegan: This wine is suitable for vegans.
Alcohol: 13%
