Nelson Chardonnay 2005Nelson Pinot Noir Reserve 2005

~  Sorry, Sold Out  ~

The Reserve Pinot Noir is Richmond Plains' premier red wine produced in seasons where fruit quality meets our high standard for this wine. The Reserve wine is made in a richer and more complex style than the standard Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is one of the most difficult and expensive wines to make well, but is one of the most rewarding displaying a wide range of flavours and aromas.

All Richmond Plains grapes are grown on our own vineyard. Both the growing of our grapes and winemaking are certified organic by BioGro New Zealand.

Nose: Fragrant pinot with red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas with spicy notes.

Palate: Delicious raspberry, blackberry and plum flavours backed by fine fruit tannins and spicy oak with a fine long finish. A well-structured elegant Pinot Noir that will continue to develop with cellaring.

Vegan: This wine is suitable for vegan diets.

Vintage: A range of Pinot Noir clones were hand harvested from our vines on free draining stony alluvial soils, over a period of 7 days, averaging about 23-24 Brix.

Wine Making: The grapes were de-stemmed, crushed and then transferred to small open top fermenters. Traditional hand plunging of the cap was carried out throughout the ferment. After approx 10 days post-ferment maceration, the wine was transferred to a range of new to 3 year old French and American barrels for 10 months. The wine was put through full malolactic fermentation in the spring and then blended, filtered and bottled during February and March 2006.

Alcohol: 13.5%   Acidity: 5.7 g/L   Brix: 23.5°   Residual sugar: Dry

"This wine has all the great characters a well balanced pinot needs. Bursting with red cherry and berryfruit aromas and a palate that is full in weight, lovely ripe fruit flavours that are not in-your-face fruity are followed by silky tannins and a touch of acidity. The wine has a soft leathery finish. This is a great example of quality Nelson pinot and is another wine that deserves a place in your shopping basket."
- Neil Hodgson, wine writer.

"A classic pinot nose of cranberry, cedar, tea and moist, fresh-dug soil, lead to a fresh, lively pinot with flavours of black cherry and savoury spices. Still just a puppy in terms of maturity, I believe this wine will reward another couple of years if put somewhere cool and dark - and more importantly, away from persuasive dinner party friends."
- Yvonne Lorkin, wine writer.
